Daddy can I use FireFox?

Daddy can I use FireFox? Those are the words of my eight year old who has reverted to the use of Mozilla FireFox.Don’t get me wrong,FireFox is an excellent browser and certainly one that I do use from time to time. However it is entirely my fault that my little girl was asking me such a question, and it is not that I am some kind of browser tyrant anyway.

You see it all started with my once in a while  household lectures with how good Google Chrome is as a browser....as a matter of fact you just have to mention the word chrome to start me.Sometimes I sit in my little corner of the room just waiting for someone to just say browser...please just give me an excuse....

Anyhow it was going so well ,everyone had switched to Google Chrome and needless to say all were fascinated, seriously.I neglected to say that I was using the developer version and doing my own naive tinkering along the way.So when everything began to collapse they all blamed it on Google Chrome and no explanation on my part would suffice.

Operation repair
Now I had the job of repairing the damage done.So after getting my Google Chrome back to its original form I went about creating  an enticing home page with some really good applications for children . Now at least she is back to Google Chrome and there is no more talk of FireFox.It would have been even better if Google had decided to send one of the chrome notebooks to Barbados for me to test but we all know how unimportant we overseas users are......

Epilogue
I often have to remind my daughter that there is indeed another browser that she will come across from time to time called Internet explorer and its associated operating system called Windows.....

Pcmag.com  The browser battle has been raging almost as long as the internet has existed. But with new competitors in the fray and longtime entries revving up new technologies, the stakes have never been higher. In the late nineties and early aughts, it was Microsoft’s Internet Explorer versus Netscape Navigator. Fast forward 20 years, and IE’s proprietary technologies for enabling interactive, application-like websites have given way to W3C standards-based features for delivering the online experience.

Chrome update turns browsers into covert listening tools

Boing Boing : "The default behavior of hotword, a new, black-box module in Chrome (and its free/open cousin, Chromium) causes it to silently switch on your computer's microphone and send whatever it hears to Google. Google says that hotword isn't supposed to switch on unless users enable it, but developers have documented instances in which the module triggered the mic without user intervention."

Google Chrome Beta Can 'Prerender' Web Pages

Image via CrunchBase PCMag.com : "One of the most recent builds of the Google Chrome browser offers support for an intriguing new feature: 'prerendering' of Web pages, offering even faster Web browsing by guessing which pages you'll visit next. In the 9.0.576.0 build and subsequent versions of Chrome for Windows and Linux , the new build 'add[s] support for page prerendering', according to the changelog. The feature had previously been part of the open-source Chromium technology. The new Chrome build is part of the Chrome beta channel , and users who use the standard 'stable' Chrome builds must download the beta version."
